Colossians 3:13-15

“Make ALLOWANCE for each other’s faults, and FORGIVE anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with LOVE, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the PEACE that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace…” – Colossians 3:13-15

This is a perfect summary for our various relationships including this thing called (a Christian) marriage! Lessons:
1. We ALL have faults and each one of us must accept this truth. However, we shouldn’t hold those faults against each other.
2. Forgiveness; no relationship can thrive where this is not freely given. However, this doesn’t give us license to offend and hurt each other intentionally. Behaving without thinking about the consequences will only lead to the disintegration of any relationship.
3. Love. This is the summary of love – Patience, kindness, not jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love not DEMAND its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged (1 Corinthians 13:5). This God-kind of love is not optional for a fulfilling family life.
4. We must strive to live together in genuine peace, not allowing our differences and frustrations to get the best of us. Marriage is good and we can only bring the good out it when we’re deliberate about applying these truths.
